IT was as a quick-witted, 12-year-old assassin in Leon that Natalie Portman first caught our eye back in 1994, during the days of grunge - when crochet skull caps and velvet chokers were de rigueur. From those early days on the red carpet to her current role in ballet thriller Black Swan, there's no doubt that the former child star is now a fully fledged style icon.

From Leon, she went on to star as Queen Amidala in the Star Wars trilogy, which thrust her into international stardom, on to the cover of Vogue and into the glare of even more paparazzi flashes.
She has a penchant for Rodarte and Lanvin and - as the favourite to win the Best Actress award at this year's Oscars - there are sure to be many more red carpet fashion victories to come.
