There are those who say that the best way to win an Oscar is to play insane. That is one way, certainly, but let us be a bit more realistic about it. It is also possible to win an Oscar if you happen to have been nominated several times and do a really good role that gets you nominated. Last night, Natalie Portman won the Screen Actor’s Guild award for Best Actress. She was up against Annette Bening. Now, the reality is that the victory at the SAG awards is probably not a huge indicator that Portman will win the Oscar, but it makes this a very tough award to call. http://nataliaportman.blogspot.com/
Bening has been nominated for an Oscar four times and never won. However, Bening was nominated in 1999 for Best Actress in both the SAG Awards and the Oscars for her role in American Beauty. She won the SAG Award, but lost the Oscar. She was nominated for both awards for her film Being Julia, but lost both. There is no predicting how this will go.
Still, either way, it will be nice to see one of these two win; though, honestly, many lesbians are probably rooting very hard for Bening.
Best Ensemble went to The King’s Speech. The SAG Awards award acting and not film making.
