Y aunque está muy cerca de los 30 años (28 para ser más exactos), hace tiempo que demuestra la madurez, en todos los aspectos, de su carrera.

¿Qué es lo que tanto te gusta de la actuación? Muchísimo. (La actuación) Te permite probar toda clase de cosas que a lo mejor no harías en tu vida normal. Jamás matarías a alguien en la vida, pero en una película se puede. Igual con el sexo (riendo), porque yo no tengo relaciones sexuales por cuestiones religiosas (más risas). Hablando en serio, es emocionante imaginar la existencia de otra persona. Es realmente una experiencia extracorporal, es pura práctica de empatía.

¿Se volvió una obligada costumbre ir a los festivales de cine, después de haber pasado por Toronto, Venecia o aquella vez que estuviste como jurado en Cannes? No sé... Me gustan los festivales de cine que están basados en el público, porque hay muchos donde la gente no puede entrar o hay que ir en smoking para ver una película. Pero yo los prefiero cuando los espectadores crean el ambiente.

Y a la hora de elegir una película, ¿qué estilo de cine te gusta realmente? Me gusta toda clase de cine. Tengo suerte que la gente haya tenido la mente lo suficientemente abierta como para permitirme un rango bastante amplio. Y películas como Love and Other Impossible Pursuits son emocionantes, porque combina el drama con buen humor. Pero claro, por supuesto me sentí bastante miserable durante el rodaje de las dos películas porque era imposible no llevarme el personaje a casa, pero el apoyo que tuve hizo que el trabajo fuera mucho más fácil.

Habiendo tenido que besar en una misma película a dos galanes como Jake Gyllenhaal y Tobey Maguire... ¿no te preguntan quién besa mejor? (Riendo) ¡Todo el tiempo! Filmar la escena de un beso, hoy en día, no es gran cosa, pero el beso con Jake fue el peor, por la situación de besar a un hermano, sin saber si podrías recuperarte después de algo así. Y en la película, la verdad, es difícil perdonar a cualquiera de los tres personajes. Por suerte detrás de cámaras nos llevamos mucho mejor, porque a Tobey lo conozco desde los 14 años y a Jake, desde los 18. Hace más de diez años que nos conocemos y es la primera vez que hago una película con amigos. Yo estoy más acostumbrada a trabajar con gente que no conozco, donde de pronto me tocan escenas íntimas en la cama y tengo que pretender que dormimos juntos desde hace años. Es parte del oficio, pero fue interesante aprovechar en este trabajo la historia que tenemos los tres como amigos.

Hablando de amigos, en la otra película Love and Other Impossible Pursuits aparece Lisa Kudrow, famosa por su personaje de Phoebe en la comedia Friends. ¿Con ella también eran ‘friends’? No, pero siempre la admiré. Y fue fantástico, porque Lisa ya estaba contratada cuando yo empecé con la película y tuvimos escenas muy pero muy emocionantes en el primer día que la conocí. Me ayudó mucho, hubo como una dinámica familiar y obviamente fueron muy amigables conmigo, aunque yo era la chica nueva.

El punto en común entre las películas Brothers y Love and Other Impossible Pursuits, es tu rol como madre ¿Me equivoco o es la primera vez que apareces en cine como una mujer madura y casada, con hijos? Sí, es cierto, aunque no lo tomo como un gran desafío porque mi madre es supermaternal y es el buen ejemplo que tuve toda mi vida. Pero definitivamente me atrae la idea de interpretar personajes adultos porque en la vida real también trato de serlo y supongo que es bueno practicarlo en cine.

¿Cómo te imaginas dentro de diez años entonces? No lo sé. Ni siquiera sé si quiero trabajar. No sé si voy a poder seguir trabajando (como actriz). ¿Quién sabe? Es imposible imaginarlo. A lo mejor prefiera quedarme en casa, esperando a mi futuro esposo, que seguramente será médico y judío (riendo), cocinándole un buen estrudel o alguna comida judía.

Como decimos uno de los aspectos que más se usaron para la promoción de la película fueron las escenas sexuales que Natalie Portman y Mila Kunis protagonizarán en el filme.

At the press conference for Jim Sheridan's Brothers, a terrific drama in which Portman is quite astounding as a young mother whose husband is a soldier who has gone missing and presumed dead in Afghanistan, we tried our best to broach the subject, trying to find out why she decided to do it, having already starred in one comic book movie (V For Vendetta) as well as starring in one of the biggest sci-fi franchises of all time (Do we even have to name it?). We also were hoping to find out what sort of research or comics she might have read for the role, and whether it might be a big part, considering that much of the movie will probably take place in Asgard.

Unfortunately, the press conference environment is not the best place to get into this sort of thing--and we felt quite guilty even asking about it--but she did tell us at least why she did want to be in the movie:

"I just thought it sounded like a weird idea because Kenneth Branagh's directing it, so I was just like, 'Kenneth Branagh doing 'Thor' is super-weird. I've gotta do it'," she told us, before a journalist interrupted her answering our question because he didn't even know who Jane Foster was (The heathen!). Sadly, she never got to the rest of our question, but hopefully, we'll get another chance to talk to her before the movie comes out.

Natalie Portman recently explained that she was compelled to join Thor because the Kenneth Branagh-directed movie seemed "super weird." Now she's dropping Thor casting news to MTV.

Well I'm really excited. Kat Dennings [(Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist, the upcoming Defendor)] is going to be in it with me and she's a good friend and an amazing actress, so I'm looking forward to that.

What role Dennings will play is unknown. A casting notice found in October mentions the role of college student Marcy Lewis, who interns with a scientist and "deals with her situation both by using subtle irony and by being an overt wiseass." Considering Portman's casting as nurse Jane Foster, coupled with Portman's enthusiasm over Dennings' casting, the role of Marcy could be a potential lock.

Thor starts production in mid-January and has filled out an impressive cast of newcomers and Academy-Award winners, including Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander, Ray Stevenson, Stuart Townsend, Tadanobu Asano, and recent addition Idris Elba.
